Quick guide to moss and algae control for paddocks

Unfortunately there are no products approved for moss control in paddocks due to the potential danger to grazing animals from products containing sulphate of iron.

The best advice is to encourage light, drainage and airflow. This can be facilitated by chain harrowing and discouraging shady areas. Acid soils will also encourage moss growth and liming of the soil can help raise the pH of the soil.

It may be worth testing the soil in the affected areas as lime granules can be applied as long as pH is not raised too high. Please click here for details on our Paddock Soil Analysis.

Re-seeding your paddock may be necessary after harrowing removes the moss, if so please see our grass seed for paddocks here
