January Gardening Jobs
During January there are still tasks that need to be done around the garden/land to make sure that it stays in order over these colder months. It is important to remember however, that the following jobs should only be carried out when weather and ground conditions are suitable. This will change depending on your location and how the weather has been over the course of that month.
Here are some of our suggestions of jobs that can be carried out during this month:
General Tasks
- Buy a soil analysis during this month as it is the perfect time to see what your soil is lacking. It is not yet the time of year when most fertilisers can be applied so it will allow you to plan ahead and order what you need for the spring months - See our range of soil analyses here
- Service equipment such as knapsacks, mowers and tillers before they are needing to be used again - Take a look at our range of spare parts and accessories here
- For more information on servicing equipment, explore our blog here
Lawns / Turfed Areas
- While there are frosts on the ground, keep off the grass as it will crush and kill the turf, leaving yellow or dead patches when it thaws
- Regularly check for any disease activity and treat appropriately - Check out our lawn fungicides here
- If worm casts are present, remove if possible - Take a look at our product Amvista Squirm, a non-pesticidal solution
Trees, Shrubs and Hedges
- Planting of bare root deciduous hedging such as beech and hawthorn can commence - Arbor Gold slow release fertiliser should be added at time of planting for best establishment
