As the coronavirus situation continues, Progreen will aim to operate as full a service for its customers as it can; with this in mind we wish to assure you that the health of our customers & team is our highest priority.

We will continue to follow the advice of Public Health England and the World Health Organisation & introduce a wide variety of measures to minimise any impact.

Cleaning in our head office has intensified & our teams are being regularly reminded to operate a high level of hand hygiene. Any of our team who may exhibit mild signs or flu like systems have been advised to follow the current government guidelines.

We will continue to monitor the situation and follow direction given by the government & will take whatever action is necessary to protect the health of our customers and our teams. Please be assured we are currently offering a full service and will continue to aim to deliver this for our customers. However this position could change without warning and we suggest that customers may wish to take into stock products that they might require over the next few weeks.

We endeavour to send orders out the same day. To help us, please order by 11am so the order can be despatched that day. We aim to deliver between 24-48hrs, however we cannot be held responsible for unforeseen delays from third party operators. (Remote areas of the UK may take longer; please contact us for details).

Applying it as a service

  • If you are applying pesticides, weed killers, fungicides (Plant Protection Products, PPPs) as part of a service on someone else’s land you need to have an appropriate NPTC certificate of competence or be working in sight and sound of an appropriately qualified person.
  • This is also the case if you are using non-professional products

Applying under Grandfather Rights (born before 31st December 1964)?

  • If you were born before 31st Dec. 1964 you can apply professional use pesticide on your own land under Grandfather Rights. However from 26th November 2015, this will expire and you will need a relevant certificate of competence to continue to apply professional pesticides.
  • The certificate of competence you can work under can either be the Grandfather Rights Certificate conversion certificate “Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides Replacing Grandfather Rights” or the appropriate NPTC – PA1, PA2, PA6 awarded by City & Guilds or Lantra.
  • Please note a Grandfather’s Right conversion certificate will only allow you to continue to use professional pesticides on your own land. If you wish to apply pesticides to another person’s land you will need to have the appropriate NPTC – PA1, PA2, PA6 certificates from City & Guilds for Lantra.

Applying to my own land?

  • Born after 31st Dec. 1964 – You must have the relevant NPTC certificate of competence to apply a professional use product to your own land. This may vary according to the product you are applying and the application method for example
  • Knapsack spraying would require a PA1, PA6 – City and Guilds or Lantra – NPTC qualification
  • Boom sprayer application (mounted or trailed) would require a PA1, PA2 – City & Guilds or Lantra – NPTC qualification
  • Born before 31st Dec. 1964 – you can still operate under Grandfather Rights up until 26th November 2015 for more information click here.
  • No you do not need a certificate of competence to buy a professional pesticide/weed killer, anyone can purchase them.
  • However the person applying a pesticide (PPPs) must have an NPTC qualification (National Proficiency Test Council) or be working within sight and sound of a person who has a relevant qualification, for example:
  • Knapsack spraying would require a PA1, PA6 – City and Guilds or Lantra – NPTC qualification
  • Boom sprayer application (mounted or trailed) would require a PA1, PA2 – City & Guilds or Lantra – NPTC qualification
  • Qualifications required vary dependent on the product and application methods used, if you are unsure of whether you need to be qualified of what qualification you need. Call us on 0800 032 6262 or email [email protected] and we’ll be happy to advise you.
  • If you are using a non-professional pesticide/weed killer as a service you still are required to have the relevant NPTC (National Proficiency Test Council) qualifications.

Undiluted pesticides
Pesticides have no sell by date. Once they are open keep then frost free with the top firmly on they should last for a number of years.

If stored for some time it is best practice to check that the pesticide is still approved for use. This can be done by checking the CRD website link or alternatively contact us via email on [email protected] or call 0800 032 6262

Diluted pesticides
Once a pesticide is mixed and diluted its efficiency will start to diminish over a period of time. This is why it is recommended to do the following:-

  • Only mix the right amount of product that you need to carry out a job
  • Mix as close to the time you are going to apply the pesticide to make sure you get the best results

Children & pets
It is normal practice to keep children and pets away from sprayed areas until the applied product has dried, after this point it is generally safe for children and pets to go back and use the area.

Puppies, kittens, chickens, geese, guinea pigs
It is advisable to call for advice if applying pesticides in areas where the above animals are present, so that we can check with the manufacturer and offer advice. To find out more call 0800 032 6262

Grazing animals (ie Horses, Sheep etc)
Specific exclusions for grazing animals apply on certain products. This can vary from 7 to 14 days. Please check your product label for full instructions and exclusions before spraying. If you are unsure please call us on 0800 032 6262 and we can advise you.

NB: It is important to always read the product label for full instructions before spraying

Dilution rates are on all pesticide product labels and should be checked and read before use.

You will find that the majority of our listings display dilutions in hectares, so it’s useful to know that one hectare is equivalent to 10,000m2 to help with any conversions you carry out. You can also use our Conversion Chart for more information on weights, volumes & areas conversions.

If you are still unsure on what dilutions you should be using please email us on [email protected] or call 0800 032 6262 and we will be happy to help you.
