Blanket Weed Treatment
Blanket weed is often attempted to be removed by hand or using a net. This method alone is not advisable as while it is still alive, blanket weed can release spores into the surrounding water causing further growth in the future. To be able to remove blanket weed from the water you would need to kill it first.

What is blanket weed?
Blanket weed is a common pond algae. It creates dense growths of hair-like strands that can be found both on or under the water’s surface. It is caused by three main factors: too much sunlight, a raised pH level and an excess of nutrients in the water. This growth does cause a problem as not only does it look unsightly, it consumes large amounts of oxygen from the water creating a harmful environment for aquatic plants and fish. As well as this it is often a sign of a chemical imbalance in the pond/water.
