Pasture Master is an effective grassland and pasture weed killer that provides excellent selective weed control in grassland areas on a variety of both common and difficult weeds, including ragwort.
This product is an alternative to Headland Polo selective weed killer containing the same two active ingredients of 2,4-D and MCPA. These active ingredients help provide greater control of a variety of target weeds in pasture/grassland areas and are a particularly good ragwort weed killer.
Key Points:
- Flexible and robust product that can be used in both established grassland and newly sown leys
- When applying to newly sown leys use at 2.5L/ha in 200-400L/ha of water
- MCPA provides effective control of thistles, buttercups and soft rush
- 2,4-D is an excellent ingredient in the control of Docks and Ragwort
- This product is only approved for boom spray application – check out the Fimco Trailer Sprayer or take a look at our range of ATV Sprayer Tanks
- Suitable to tank mix with Hurler to provide a very safe broad spectrum weed mix on newly sown leys and established grasslands (see application rates for more details)
- It is recommended to improve your level of weed control to use PastureMaster in conjunction with an adjuvant such as Validate. Validate is a sticker which helps penetrate into tougher weeds.
- Livestock must be kept out of the treated area for 14 days however in areas where ragwort or other poisonous weeds have been treated, keep livestock away until the weed has completely died.
Application Notes and Guidance for using PastureMaster
- Timing of application
- Ragwort – ideally treated at the rosette stage before flowering in Spring or Autumn
- Nettles – For PastureMaster to be an effective nettle weed killer, you want to apply it when the weeds are 30cm high pre flower or regrowth
- Buttercups – PastureMaster is a great buttercup weed killer if it is applied in autumn and spring pre flower
- Docks – Apply before flowering
- Thistles – Apply at the early flower bud stage before blooming
- PastureMaster Grassland Weed Killer is most effective when the weeds are actively growing so avoid use if there is frost, drought or cold soil temperatures
- Avoid spraying grassland and paddock weed killers if rain is forecast as it will likely be washed away
- When applying any chemical product it is important to ensure that you wear the correct PPE – take a look at our Safety Clothing Bundle
Why it is important to use a herbicide like Pasture Master where ragwort and grazing animals are present:
- Ragwort plants can kill horses and grazing cattle if eaten, so removing them is important. PastureMaster is a proven ragwort killer
- It is extremely difficult to spot ragwort poisoning in livestock before it is too late
- In one season a single ragwort plant can produce over 10,000 seeds which can spread easily
- Seeds from a plant can germinate over many years, increasing infestation levels
- Livestock will not usually eat ragwort while it is growing, however when it is dying/wilting it becomes much more palatable which is why it is important that animals are excluded from a treated area until the weeds have completely died
- Failure to control ragwort on your land may lead to prosecution
