Cleaning an Artificial Tennis Court

Cleaning an Artificial Tennis Court

Hard tennis courts require regular maintenance to ensure that the surface not only looks good, but it is also safe to play on. The growth of green biofilms such as algae, moss and lichen can make playing surfaces slippery, resulting in them becoming too hazardous to play on. For safety, it is essential that you get your tennis court cleaning regime in place, so that it doesn’t fall into disuse.

How should I clean a tennis court?

Synthetic tennis court cleaning needs to be done with great care. It is important that you do not damage the playing surface with inappropriate products or tools as this could result in expensive repair costs. Pressure washing can cause damage to the playing surface leaving behind “wand scars”, easy if the wrong nozzle or pressure has been used.

The safer, longer-term option to pressure washing is to use softwashing products. These biocidal cleaning agents can be applied with a low pressure sprayer, such as a knapsack, and can be left on the surface to clean and disinfect the algae or biofilms that may be present. None of the softwashing products that we stock at ProGreen contain bleach, so when applied to any hard surface, painted or artificial grass tennis court surface, they will not cause discolourations making them the ideal solution.

Tennis court cleaning chemicals

At ProGreen we stock a wide range of specialist hard surface cleaners that are suitable for cleaning artificial sports playing surfaces - such as tennis courts. Products such as AlgoClear Pro will help to clean areas of algae, lichen and other biofilms that cause the playing area to be slippery and a hazard while also keeping the area clean for a period of time. Where you have the conditions for algae and other growths, they will likely come back - these products will continue to work time after time:

What equipment should be used?

In order to apply softwashing products to a tennis court we would recommend our Softwash Starter Kit. This handy bundle makes it easy and contains everything that you would need to start treating t. It includes:

  • 1 x 20L Matabi LTCS electric knapsack
  • 1 x 6m hose for extended reach (making it easier to move around the tennis court)
  • 1 x 5.4m telescopic extension lance
  • 1 x grey Evenspray nozzle for high output

Alternatively, as tennis courts are a large area to cover, the Techneat Acuspray is the ideal piece of equipment for ease of application. Simply push the sprayer along and it will do the rest of the work for you!
