Moss Control: Moss Treatment For Lawns
Controlling Moss In Grass, Turf and Lawns
There are different ways you can kill moss in grass or lawns, either with spreadable granules (through a granule applicator) or a sprayable liquid (from a knapsack sprayer or watering can). Killing moss in lawns helps grass to stay healthy and vibrant.
Both product types usually have some fertiliser or seaweed added to encourage the grass to re-establish after the area is controlled.
It is also possible to buy a granule moss removal with a weed killer added, such as Amvista G.4. Results from these all-in-one treatments are acceptable; however, we believe a separate spray application for weeds gives better results.
Sul-Fe blackens moss while greening up grass. It is easily applied using a knapsack sprayer or watering can with a sprinkler bar. It can also control moss at higher rates.
A liquid option is MossOff Lawn which offers clean, safe, non-chemical treatment for killing moss in lawns. MossOff Lawn is a concentrate made from natural, biodegradable substances, it works quickly and provides long-lasting results. 1L dilution covers approx 7 (m2)
Maxicrop Moss Killer & Conditioner acts fast - controlling moss & fertilising your lawn. This seaweed fertilizer not only greens up your lawn, but with added iron it will also control moss. 10L treats up to 666m2.
Effective Lawn Care for Preventing Moss Growth
Moss grows on lawns when grass growth is slow, the soil is wet, or there is high humidity. Excessive thatch on a lawn also creates the damp conditions in which moss thrives. When moss appears, it often signals that the grass in the lawn is not as healthy as it should be, and a lawn and moss treatment may be needed to restore balance.
When moss is present in a lawn, it is a good indicator that:
- The ground remains wet for long periods
- The nutrient levels of the soil are low
- The soil is compacted and lacks organic matter
- The grass may be cut too short or even scalped down to bare earth
- The area is shaded from regular sunshine
- There is poor air flow around the lawn
Using moss treatment for lawns can help address these issues by targeting the moss and allowing the grass to recover. To prevent further moss growth, combine a high-quality moss removal product with proper lawn care techniques, such as aerating compacted soil and maintaining healthy grass. By addressing the underlying causes and applying moss control for lawns, you can improve the overall health of your lawn.

IMPORTANT LEGISLATION CHANGE
Since the reclassification of Moss as a plant, products for the treatment of Moss now come under The Plant Protection Products (Sustainable Use) Regulations 2012. This means that only products that have HSE accreditation can legally be used for the control of Moss. To avoid breaking the law, contractors and private users must ensure that the product being used is appropriately approved.
