Seed Sowing

• Fill a seed tray with SylvaGrow and gently tap to level.
• Water lightly using a fine spray or rose.
• Sow seeds following the packet instructions and cover with compost as directed.
• Cover the tray with glass or plastic and place somewhere warm, away from direct sunlight.
• Once seeds germinate, remove the cover and keep the compost evenly moist.
• Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle.
  
  Tip: For very fine seeds like Begonia or Impatiens, sieve the compost first to remove larger particles.

Transplanting Seedlings

• Carefully lift seedlings using a dibber or pencil, handling them by the leaves only.
• Fill pots with fresh SylvaGrow and make a hole for each seedling.
• Place seedlings in position, firm gently, and water well.
• After 4–6 weeks, begin regular liquid feeding or add slow-release fertiliser when transplanting.

Potting On & Containers

• Water plants well before repotting. If dry, soak roots in water for 30 minutes.
• Fill containers with SylvaGrow Multi-purpose.
• Plant at the same depth as before and firm compost gently around roots.
• Water thoroughly and keep compost moist, especially in hanging baskets.
• Feed after 4–6 weeks with liquid or slow-release fertiliser.

Cuttings

• Water the parent plant before taking cuttings.
• Fill a tray or pot with SylvaGrow and make planting holes.
• Prepare cuttings and insert promptly, using rooting hormone if desired.
• Firm compost gently around cuttings.
• Keep stem cuttings humid and out of direct sunlight until rooted.
• Pot on once roots are established.

Raised Beds

• Mix 1 part SylvaGrow Multi-purpose with 3–4 parts soil or loam for vegetables and strawberries. Feed regularly, as crops are heavy feeders.

Planting Out

• Blend 1 part SylvaGrow with 4 parts garden soil when planting shrubs, trees, roses, perennials, or bedding plants. Water plants thoroughly before planting and ensure roots can spread easily into surrounding soil.

Ericaceous Plants

• Not suitable for acid-loving plants in containers. Use SylvaGrow Ericaceous instead. SylvaGrow Multi-purpose can still be mixed into acidic garden soil at 1 part compost to 4 parts soil.

Keep the compost evenly moist but avoid overwatering, especially in containers and hanging baskets. Plants grown in SylvaGrow Multi-Purpose will benefit from additional feeding after 4–6 weeks, as the initial nutrients become depleted. Use a balanced liquid feed or slow-release fertiliser according to plant type and growing conditions.

For best results, position plants according to their sunlight requirements and regularly remove dead foliage or spent flowers to encourage healthy growth. Store unused compost in a cool, dry place and reseal the bag after use to maintain freshness.
