Golf courses present a specific challenge when selecting sports turfgrass seed mixes. The varied areas, tees, greens, fairways and rough have very different purposes, however, all must produce a very high-quality playing surface. The root zones of golf courses can also be antagonistic to many grass species, typically based on very free-draining sands, they are prone to drought and have very poor fertility.
