Spring & Summer Fertiliser
The onset of Spring growth is typically mid February to mid March depending on the location within the UK, and signals the ideal time to apply the first application of fertiliser to lawns or turf. Early applications of Spring lawn feed tend to be granular rather than liquid and usually contain a balance of nitrogen, phosphate and potash or N P K.
A useful checklist for Spring Summer applied Lawn fertliser:
Spring Summer Lawn Feed
- Medium to high nitrogen content: to encourage early season leaf & tissue production
- Some products contain iron to combat moss infestations eg Amvista G2 Lawn Sand & Amvista G4 Turf Rise
- Other products are called “weed and feed” and combine a low dose weedkiller to control small weeds in the turf eg Amvista G4 Turf Rise
- There is a specialist product called Amvista G0 Pre-Season Fertiliser which uniquely releases nitrogen feed at much lower temperatures, found at the start of the Spring, when compared to traditional mid season products
- A few products are classed as “slow release” where nutrients are released to the grass over a prolonged period of time eg Amvista G5 Long Life Fertiliser, Amvista G6 Long Life Fertiliser or Amvista G7 Long Life Fertiliser
However:
- Do not apply immediately before heavy rainfall
- Do not apply granules on a slope – risk of run-off
- Do not apply on frosty, frozen grass
