Selective Weed Killer For Lawns
Weeds cause a range of problems in both amenity and domestic grassland. Weeds such as nettles and thistles present a significant risk of injury, reducing the pleasure we can get from our green spaces. Weeds also reduce the quality of playing surfaces such as bowls greens and golf tees so it is essential to gain control.
At ProGreen we offer a range of selective weed killers that allow you to gain control of the weeds without harming the grass surrounding them making it the ideal solution.

When applying selective weed killers to the lawn it is essential that you use the correct piece of equipment to ensure that you are getting a good amount of spray onto the target plant. All of our selective weed killers we recommend for use on lawns have approval to be applied using a handheld/knapsack sprayer.
As with any pesticide, it is vital that you are wearing full PPE to make sure that you are protecting yourself against the chemicals that you are spraying.
Q. How do selective weed killers work on a lawn?
A. Selective weed killers target dicotyledonous plants, such as broad-leaved weeds. They do not target monocotyledons which are grasses meaning that any grass that the product is applied to will be safe.
Q. When can I use weed killer on my lawn?
A. You should use your selective weed killer on the lawn when the weeds are actively growing which is generally between the spring and autumn months. For guidance on the best times to control specific weeds take a look at our how to guides for more information.
Q. Should I mow the lawn before spraying weed killer?
A. It is recommended that you do not mow the lawn before applying your weed killer as this would remove any weed leaves that are there. The leaves are a vital point of access for the weed killer to enter the plant so without them there will be no entrance root.
