June is here and that means that summer is arriving any day now! The increase in light and temperature encourages plants to have a burst of growth. Not only are plants growing, weeds will also be popping up all over so it is important that you keep an eye out for them and gain control where you can. Check out our guide to see all of the different jobs that can be completed during this month.

General tasks for June

  • Maintain control of weeds, pests and diseases
  • Water as and when needed to ensure that plants stay healthy

Tasks for Lawn / Turfed areas in June

  • Check for disease within the lawn and treat accordingly
  • Keep an eye out for pests and treat them where needed

  • Control weeds using selective weed control products to make sure that you do not harm the lawn
  • Continue to mow regularly
  • Overseed areas of the lawn that have failed to thicken
  • Apply a balanced summer fertiliser

Trees, shrubs and hedges

  • Remove fading flowers from roses, lilacs and rhododendrons
  • Finish pruning spring-flowering shrubs

Beds and borders

  • Tidy and cut back spring-flowering perennials
  • Deadhead faded flowers
  • Start planting summer bedding plants and water them regularly
  • Sow plants such as pansies to provide winter/spring colour

Wall plants

  • Continue training plants to grow in the right direction
