November Gardening Jobs

November Gardening Jobs

November is here and marks the end of the sowing season. Although frosts will start to occur in certain areas, until the soil temperature drops below 7 degrees then turf and plants may still continue to grow. Despite the cooler temperatures, there are still tasks that need to be completed to keep your garden in top shape over the autumn/winter period.

General Tasks To Complete In November

  • Clear any autumn debris from around the garden as and when it appears (Why? Leaf debris can harbour spores if left – collect leaves and compost in bins or bags to create beautiful nutrient rich soil)

Lawns / Turfed Area Maintenance for November

  • Check for disease activity and treat accordingly (see our fungicides here)
  • If the weather is still ok (i.e. not frosty or wet) then the lawn can have its final cut of the year with the mower set at a height of 35-45mm to ensure it’s not too low
  • Avoid walking on the lawn during frosts

Trees, Shrubs and Hedges

  • Check these for wind damage and check that ties and stakes are still in place
  • Clear any snow off conifers
  • Protect sensitive trees and shrubs from frost with horticultural fleece

Beds and Borders

  • Tidy these areas, cutting back any old growth
  • Add compost or rotted manures to improve soil
  • Utilise bare areas by preparing them for seed potato planting
