July Gardening Jobs
July is quite often one of the hottest months of the year and the perfect time to enjoy your garden. During the hot weather you will need to make sure that plants and turf are in the healthiest condition possible so they can thrive in the sun without the worry of dying. Take a look at our guide to find out the tasks that can be completed during this month.
General Tasks
- Continue controlling weeds, pests and diseases
- Apply spot treatment to perennial weeds
- Water plants as and when needed
Lawn / Turfed Areas
- Check for turf diseases and treat accordingly, e.g.: Dry patch and Anthracnose
- Explore our range of lawn fungicides
- If you notice any dead turf or tufts of grass check for Leatherjackets or Chafer Grubs, ensure you apply products to gain control and protect your lawn
- See our range of nematodes that are ideal for controlling these pests
- Control weeds to ensure that they are not taking hold or outcompeting the grass
- View our selective weed killers
- Continue to mow the lawn in hot weather, but lightly. Take care not to scalp it
- Water if needed – seldom but heavily. 2 x a week with a thorough drench down to the roots will work better than 4 x a week too lightly. Use Soil Soaker to improve air & water penetration in the soil
Trees, Shrubs and Hedges
- Prune and deadhead early summer-flowering shrubs
- Deadhead roses and feed using our Amvista Bloom Rose and Flower Fertiliser to increase growth slowly over time.

- Improve the soil nutrition and water retention by working in seaweed meal flakes: Amvista seaweed meal
Beds and Borders
- Deadhead fading flowers
- Lavender for displays can be cut at this point for drying out
- Apply a general fertiliser to late-flowering plants: Fish Blood & Bone
Bulbs
