Women in Agriculture Practical Training Fund
The Women in Agriculture Practical Training Fund has been created by the Scottish Government as a way of supporting the personal development of women, giving them the additional skills they need to progress in their careers and also provide them with further employment opportunities in Scottish agriculture that without certain training they would not be able to reach.
It was found, after research into women in the farming and agriculture industry, that there was a need for more access and uptake of vocational and practical training of women across the sector.
What kind of courses can be applied for?
There are a variety of course that would be eligible for funding, for example, business skills, health and safety, plants and animals, vehicles, machinery and equipment. Recently at Progreen, we had an application for our PA1 and PA6 pesticide training courses from a woman who had been granted funding for the courses through the Women in Agriculture Practical Training Fund scheme. This is an example of what the funding can be used for.
Who is eligible to apply?
As the scheme is a Scottish Government initiative it is only available to women who are residents in Scotland and they fit the following criteria:
- Already living or working in Scottish agriculture
- Studying agriculture full-time/part-time
- They are keen to begin working in Scottish agriculture but have not been able to at this current time due to not holding the right qualifications
How much can be applied for?
The Women in Agriculture Practical Training Fund will provide 100% of costs for a training course up to the value of £500. For any course that costs over the £500, the application will be assessed and accepted depending on how beneficial it will be to the individual or business.
